Personal Software
Jul 2026

A couple of years ago I was at a Betaworks event and someone was giving a presentation about how in the future, we would all be building our own apps for our own specific use cases.
At the time I understood the argument, but didn't have a good feel for how far away something like that was.
The software cycle of idea, plan, UI, dev, test, PR, etc. has always been significant enough to make "spinning up a quick app" more or less unachievable for almost everyone.
...
Last night I put a call out on my IG close friends seeing if anyone knew anyone who wanted to sublet my spare room over the next few months.
I got lots of different responses... with various rate requests and questions.
This morning I explained the situation to Claude Code and suggested building a timeline app that allows me to add all the people and dates and calculate the rent.
It was immediately helpful! And because Claude has my Vercel and Github access, it was deployed and live in under an hour.
